Performance Mobility Introduces National Mobility Awareness Month for Seniors, Veterans and People with Disabilities

At the 22nd Annual NMEDA Conference in Phoenix, Arizona, the National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association announced National Mobility Awareness Month, which will be celebrated throughout the US and Canada in May 2012. The goal of the awareness month is to inform seniors, veterans, caregivers and people with disabilities about options for living an active, mobile lifestyle through the use of wheelchair accessible vehicles and adaptive mobility equipment.

In celebration of the awareness month, NMEDA has also created an online contest that will award three lucky winners customized wheelchair accessible vehicles to meet their needs. In support of the awareness month, sponsors such as Toyota, SanTan Honda in Chandler, AZ and Chrysler, have rallied together to provide the vehicles, which will later be customized by NMEDA manufacturers – BraunAbility, Vantage Mobility International and Bruno Independent Living Aids.

Those eligible to win the wheelchair accessible vehicles are distinguished as Local Heroes, who will be encouraged to submit either written or videotaped stories of how they’ve overcome or struggled with mobility issues. Caregivers, friends and family members are also welcome to submit entries for others. Stories will be accepted from March 18, 2012 to May 13, 2012, voting will take place from April 1, 2012 to May 13, 2012 and the link to the registration page can be found on http://www.PerformanceMobility.com

Milford Person Lift

The Milford Person Lift is a unique product made to give safety and peace of mind for any wheelchair user in the form of a lift for vehicles.  The company Autochair has over 30 years experience in the design and manufacture of vehicle adaptations to assist people with disabilities.  The Milford Person Lift is intended to make life easier.  It is lightweight and the driver or passenger can use the hand control to lift the person out of their wheelchair and then maneuver the passenger into the vehicle.  The sling that transfers from the wheelchair to the car is easy to fit while seated in the wheelchair.  Even the very smallest of cars can be fitted with the Milford Person Lift.  The lift is normally used for only the passenger side but in some vehicles can be installed on the driver’s side.

This innovative Lift has the advantage of making the transfer from car easy on the person being lifted and prevents strain on the caregiver helping.  The lift is made from a light weight aluminum that weighs less than 18 pounds.  The warranty for the lift lasts for 12 months and guarantees against faulty parts or workmanship.  It will not weigh down small vehicles with its compact size and it is very easy to assemble and disassemble.  Mounted into the vehicle floor by a bracket that the Milford Person Lift fits onto, it provides you with endless opportunities to travel without discomfort, hassle, or worry for you or your partner.  The Milford Person Lift is safe, comfort and versatility from one lift.  Come see one today at our Denver Performance Mobility location or call one of our Mobility Advisors for more information!

Fun and Ultimate Freedom with the GoShichi Wheelchair Pickup

When you think of wheelchair accessible vehicles, chances are good that you immediately think of minivans. That’s understandable – until recently, that’s been the most common choice for individuals dependent on a scooter or wheelchair. For years, wheelchair users have not had the option to drive a 4 x 4 truck. However, that’s no longer true. Today, individuals with limited mobility can actually get behind the wheel of a powerful, performance-oriented pickup truck. The GoShichi wheelchair pickup packs in the performance, as well as some other pretty impressive benefits.

One of the most impressive things about this wheelchair pickup truck is that it is available in both a 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive version.  The 4 x 4 truck is ready to take you where you want to go, whether it is safely navigating snow packed road, negotiating slippery boat ramps or driving up and down winding mountain roads, this is the truck that will get you there. Another immense advantage of the GoShichi wheelchair pickup truck is the fact that it’s built for carrying a payload. Whether you’re hauling the boat down to the lake, taking the family on a camping trip or moving firewood, this truck has all the payload capacity that you’ll need to get the job done.

Another exciting design feature: the lift system requires less than 6 feet of clearance for full entry and exit.  Add to that the fact that the lift is built right into the door, and you can see the immense convenience here. All you have to do is drive your wheelchair into the lock-down position and the lift moves you up and in, right behind the steering wheel.  There is also a passenger version of the GoShichi that operates in the same fashion.

Finally, the GoShichi requires a model that is either a crew cab or an extended cab.  The back seat remains in the vehicle so you’ll be able to safely carry up to 5 passengers. As you can see, the GoShichi wheelchair pickup offers a terrific new alternative for the driver or passenger looking for adventure.

Customer Appreciation Day at Performance Mobility - Denver

We at Performance Mobility pride ourselves on giving back to the community and one of the ways in which we do that is through our Customer Appreciation Day here in Denver. October 1st was our latest Customer Appreciation Day, and it was a huge success. It was a day marked by laughter, information, great food and lots of fun. If you were able to attend, we’d like to extend a warm thank you. If you weren’t able to make it down, we’re giving you an invitation now for the next one!

We sent out an open invitation to all of our current and new customers to come down and see what all the fuss was about and it looks like most did! It was a tremendous turnout. The valet parking and the BBQ were a big hit with all attendees, of course, and so were the free prize drawings. We gave away a grand prize of a flat screen LCD TV along with loads of great gift cards to our loyal customers.

Of course, the stars of the show were the wheelchair accessible minivans. A wide range of different models were available for customers to take a peek at, including the brand new, redesigned 2011 Toyota Sienna, the 2011 Chrysler Town and Country and the 2011 Honda Odyssey, each of which were outfitted with wheelchair conversions from Vantage Mobility International and BraunAbility. The unique GoShichi pickup truck conversion was also enormously popular. The pickup features a wheelchair lift integrated right into the door to make getting in and out a simple, hassle free process. The Mobility Conquest wheelchair motorcycle turned more than a few heads as well, and the trike has definitely been well received.

Attending industry leaders and mobility equipment manufacturers were also on hand to provide in-depth information about wheelchair van conversions, BRUNO wheelchair and scooter lifts, new mobility equipment and much more. We were extremely gratified by the incredible turnout and look forward to the next one!
